Assignment Reflection
Principles of Design:
I used 4 principles of designs in my Illustration. The first one I used was contrast. I made the person and the dog standing on the mountain black to contrast against the white clouds. I really wanted to make the clouds pop in the back ground and didn't want the figures to have a lot of detail so I made it all black, like a silhouette. Since clouds are usually white it is hard to give it much detail and stand out, but with the use of contrast in my piece it helped it to. I also used the principle of unity in my illustration. I used very few colors and tones in my piece which helped make a cohesive design. I also used the correct colors that represented the sky and sun which didn't cause a disruption in my piece. I used lines in the cloud to create texture of the cloud so it wouldn't look as plain which creates unity also. My third principle I used in my illustration was emphasis. With the use of color I drew emphasis to the sky and the sun. Since the sun was a bright yellow it brings your eye to it because it gave the piece a sense of vibrancy. It also causes emphasis because a lot of my illustration is just black and white so the background of the sky and sun grabs the viewers attention. My last principle I used in my illustration was movement. In the clouds I added curved lines to add movement making the clouds feel as if they were flowing across the piece like clouds do in real life. I made the line colors a grey color so it would stand out more also and bring the movement out.
Photoshop Polyptych:
In my polyptych I used 4 panels to convey emotion of people. I wanted to make it about contrasting emotions and how a lot of people mask how they truly feel sometimes. I layered peoples faces on top of each other and used double exposure to show both of the faces blending into each other. I put the "sadder" emotion in the back making it seem as if that emotion is the one the person is trying to cover up with being happy. In my first panel I did the emotions worry and content and put worry in the back and content on top. My second panel I did mad and laughing with mad in the back. My third was content and happiness with content in the back. My fourth was sadness and happiness with sadness being in the back. I used color to represent each emotion. Many people associate certain colors with certain emotions, like blue with sad and yellow with happy, so that is how I used color in my piece. I used light blue as sad, yellow as happy, red as anger, purple as worry. dark blue as laughing. All those colors I associate with each emotion.
