Passion Project

I want to make my passion project for graphic design to represent my identity. I am thinking of doing a cartoon character of myself in the middle of a piece of paper. I would be in "standard" American clothes representing that I grew up in America. Then I would have Chinese Dragons surrounding me representing where I was born. I then wanted to add Chinese characters in the corners of the paper also representing where I was born. The words will represent my middle name "Fulu" which was my first name when I was born in China. "Fu" means good luck and "lu" means happiness, so the whole thing means good fortune and blessed. I want the colors of the dragons to be red and yellow representing the most valued colors in China.

My passion project is supposed to represent who I am and my background. I was born in China which is a big part of who I am and I want to represent that culture in my art. I am going to have a character drawing of me in the middle and Chinese dragons wrapping around my self.  I'm going to use only adobe illustrator I think to create my artwork. I might use paint though for the Chinese characters that will be in the corner of my piece. My initial concerns are being able to have time management because I am expecting this to  take a long time. I am really detail oriented and want to make everything perfectly right, so I have to have time to work with the programs especially because they are older and slower.

I really liked how my piece turned out. It is exactly what I envisioned and wanted. I am proud of how it looks because I took a lot of time on it to make it and it looks like how I want. I'm glad I added the Chinese characters in the corners because I think it brought it all together in one cohesive piece. It took a lot of time to do to color both dragons and add scales to all of them. I liked documenting my progress, I wish I had done more but when you're in the process of it you don't remember to stop and take a progress picture. I wanted to add more shadows and highlights to my face but it was a struggle for me to do so and ending up just looking weird at the end so I didn't add many. It was also hard to add detail on the dragonas and make them look intricate  like how Chinese dragons are. I also like the contrasting colors of my shirt and the dragons I think that turned out well. Finding the Chinese characters that I wanted to put was also difficult, the words are from left top is happiness, then top right is blessed (fu, the first part of my middle name), bottom left is lucky, and bottom right means hope. Overall I am proud of how my piece turned out, it was exactly how I envisioned.
